Nathaniel Henning was named the 2019 Mary J. C. Hendrix Outstanding Graduate Student Award here at Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. This award provides $5000 to one Manne Research Institute graduate student each year to acknowledge the student’s high scholastic achievement and research engagement and productivity. NH recently presented his work at the Society for the Study or Reproduction Annual Meeting in San Jose, CA.
Dr. Laronda was awarded the Early Investigator Award at the Endocrine Society Annual Meeting (ENDO2019) in New Orleans. She was able to enjoy this honor at the award dinner with her parents, John and Tracey, her colleague Dr. So-youn Kim and mentor Dr. Teresa Woodruff. Dr. Woodruff received the Mentor Award from the Women in Endocrinology during ENDO2019.
Dr. Laronda also had the pleasure of presenting the 3D Printed Bioprosthetic Ovary and updates in from the lab at the Society for Reproductive Investigation in Paris, France.
Dr. Erin Rowell, Dr. Courtney Harris and Mrs. Jordan Vaught represented our program at the 14th Annual Academic Surgical Congress in Houston, Texas this week. Dr. Harris gave an oral presentation titled Participation of Pediatric Surgery Departments in Fertility Preservation Initiatives. Mrs. Vaught's abstract titled Practitioner Perceptions Surrounding the Desire of Families to Participate in Fertility Preservation for their Children was chosen for a plenary session. Our abstracts can be found here: https://www.asc-abstracts.org/
Dr. Laronda had the privilege of being invited to sharing published and in-progress research at the International Society for Biofabrication Annual Conference in Wurzburg, Germany. She is looking forward to the next Biofabrication event.
She also made it to the Materials Research Society 2018 Fall Conference in Boston, MA - despite the snow storm and flight cancellations in Chicago! Dr. Laronda met several inquisitive graduate student and postdoc trainees that presented fascinated new materials.
Drs. Erin Rowell and Monica Laronda presented Surgical Grand Rounds at Advocate Children's Hospital on September 26th. We presented on Current Concepts in Pediatric Fertility Preservation and described how our clinical and foundational research teams work together to improve pediatric fertility preservation.
Nicole Handa presented her poster on Evaluation of Comprehension in Video-Based Education for Pediatric Fertility Presentation at the Northwestern University Area of Scholarly Concentration poster session on October 5th.
Dr. Kelly McKinnon and Nathaniel Henning represented the Laronda Lab at the 8th Illinois Symposium on Reproductive Sciences (ISRS) hosted this year by Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL on October 7-8th. KM presented on Monitoring niche remodeling during folliculogenesis in bovine ovaries and NH presented his work on Defining Extracellular Matrix Protein Composition and Influence on Folliculogenesis Across Ovarian Compartments.
The summer has been busy! Here are some highlights on what we've been up to:
Dr. Laronda is on the Lurie Children's Hospital elevator!
Members participated at SSR in New Orleans: This year's annual Society for the Study of Reproduction Meeting was held in New Orleans, LA. Nathan Henning, presented a Flash Talk and Poster entitled Mapping Extracellular Matrix Protein Composition Across Ovarian Compartments and Remodeling during Folliculogenesis. Our new member, Dr. Kelly McKinnon , presented a poster on research she performed in the Woodruff lab for her PhD thesis on Microphysiologic modeling of human ectocervical tissue with endocrine support reveals distinct follicular and luteal phase gene expression profiles.Dr. Laronda was invited to present at the pre-conference Ovarian Workshop on Preantral follicle survival and growth: emerging approaches. We were excited to support our mentor, Dr. Teresa Woodruff, who received the SSR Trainee Mentor award!
The Department of Surgery asks residents to present their outstanding research for the department's Edelstone-Bendix Research day. Dr. Kristine Corkum won the Edlestone-Bendrix Research Day Resident Basic Science Award for her abstract titled: Current operative techniques for ovarian tissue cryopreservation in prepubertal children negatively affect the reproductive potential of the ovarian tissue procured for fertility preservation. She presented her research on June 16, 2018.
Congratulations to our trainees who continue to impress!
